DISTRICT 9 OPENS FRIDAY

TRENT OPALOCH’s thrilling SONY feature film premieres this FRIDAY AUGUST 14th, 2009. The sci- fi feature is presented by PETER JACKSON and directed by NEILL BLOMKAMP.  The film has been garnering big buzz worldwide. 

Lensed primarily on the Red-One camera, the film looks and sounds terrific…The interactions between the aliens (a combo of f/x and old-fashioned prosthetics) and the humans are handled as confidently as anything in the “Transformers” movies and are arguably more impressive for DP Trent Opaloch’s off-the-cuff shooting style.~ VARIETY MAGAZINE

 Trent Opaloch’s dynamic cinematography visually crafts District 9. An ingenious blend of mockumentary, CCTV, and archival news footage, Opaloch and editor Julian Clarke achieve a fine balance in their treatment of the fourth wall. ~ THE BRAG

Other nominations include ADAM MARSDEN’s csc “Never Again” by The Midway State, and TICO POULAKAKIS’s “Who Do We Care For?” by Sebastien Grainger & The Mountains. Both videos are up for VideoFACT Indie Video of the Year.

GREAT SPERM RACE AIRING SUNDAY

JEREMY BENNING, csc filmed the award winning docudrama “THE GREAT SPERM RACE” with director Julian Jones and was recently honoured with a Canadian Society of Cinematography award for Best DocuDrama for his striking images.

“When I first met with director Julian Jones last spring, his excitement and creative vision for the project really got my juices flowing. To have an opportunity to visually explore the epic journey that human sperm undertake struck me as a once in a lifetime experience – I was ready to dive in to the world of sperm! Our days shooting with the Red Camera and F900R in water slides, farmer’s fields, studios, the Canadian Rockies and the UK were fantastic fun with our hundreds of sperm extras. The final product is a very entertaining and fun ride, and we are all proud to have been part of it.”- Jeremy Benning, csc

The Great Sperm Race” will be airing on Discover Channel at 8pm ET/9pm PT on father’s day- Sunday June 21, 2009.
